Cloud Computing Maturity Models

I am generally pretty big into the concept of a Maturity Model based on the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). In the past I have worked on a J2EE Maturity Model to help assess a company’s maturity with J2EE based web technologies. After that I published and consulted on a Service Oriented Architecture Maturity Model (SOAMM).

Recently, I came across a couple incarnations and debates about a Cloud Computing Maturity Model. I am still digesting these articles, but I have to tend to agree with the fact that Cloud Computing is still relatively nacent – and the definition of a true maturity model that is quantifiable and measurable might be a hard task to do – and more then hard – how “actionable” could it possibly be?

Here are the links to some of the stuff I have found on Maturity Models for Clouds.

Cloud Computing Market Size

Filed under: Cloud Computing — Tags: — kunal @ 9:50 am

I collected a few stats on the market size of Cloud Computing -

  • Merrill Lynch Estimates the market to be $100+ billion
  • Gartner considers Cloud Computing to be in its Top 10 list of disruptive technologies
  • Forrester’s says that Cloud Computing is a disruptive innovation that is evolving fast
  • Every major IT company is providing new technologies for the Cloud – we have studied 85 companies so far

Any thoughts on the true rate of adoption of the Cloud for Enterprises?

Cloud Computing and Green IT

IT energy use has doubled since 2000 and will likely double again by 2011. It will be interesting to see how this will impact Cloud Computing.

Green IT and Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing allows enterprises to reduce their costs of power in traditional data centers quiet dramatically. However, will this really be a driver for the adoption of the Cloud?
